NEW & NOTEWORTHY HAPPENINGS ON THE LOCAL RETAIL SCENE
By Aubrey Tait

The Hipster, Grown-Up: Shop Sixty-Five
Followers of Shop Sixty-Five’s New York/LA fare can revel in a new location thrice the size of the boutique’s former Main Street, Doylestown, headquarters. Now across town at 53 West State Street, the boutique, known for its extensive jeans selection, occasion dresses and the perfect “date top,” is still serving up the same couture and service — only now from two floors of lighter, airier and more eco-friendly quarters constructed from recycled materials. In addition to the boutique’s familiar brands — Marc by Marc Jacobs, Rebecca Taylor, Lamb and William Rast, among others — is a batch of newcomers that includes Juicy and the more obscure Hanni Y and Mint. An entire floor dedicated to a men’s and women’s “denim bar,” featuring 200 styles and 20 designers, leaves no one bereft of this critical basic. And visitors to the new location, says owner Linda Bidlo, needn’t be surprised to happen upon a private denim party or an occasional trunk show.

The Sweet Sophisticate: Lime
Few things don’t benefit from a splash of lime, and Lambertville is no exception. Lime, the boutique, comprises three rooms — which charmingly occupy the first floor of a historic home — of contemporary and dressy designs and accessories which owner Lorena Bochenek says fill the gap left by the absence of a nearby, mall-proportioned shopping mecca. A practiced buyer who toiled for the likes of Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren, Bochenek has built a spectrum-spanning assortment of designers from Marc by Marc Jacobs to Tory Burch to Theory; handbag-hounds can paw through creations by Bodkier and Kooba, to name a few, and jewelry fien ds will find pieces from Kenneth J. Lane and Sophia. Special events, like personal shopping sessions, denim fittings and vacation-packing advisories, as well as in-house tailoring and gift bags, prove how fresh and tart a summer treat Lime can be.

The Discriminating Gentleman: Senor
Everyday is a reason to dress up, according to Senor owner Marcos Vargas. Riding on the coattails of the success of its Manayunk location, the store, featuring made-to-order suits from Ermenegildo Zegna, G alente, Loro Piano and Valentino, as well as the more casual wear from 191 Mason Underground, International Laundry, Emanuel Ungardo, Dormeuil, Raffi Knitwear and JC de Castelbajac, has opened up a new set of doors in New Hope. Formerly owners and operators of Philadelphia’s famed Sarto Fino, Vargas and his partner/wife, Jackie, have dressed socialites, entertainers and athletes for 15 years. The duo is proud to say the dapper set now comes from New York instead of flocking to it for all things en vogue for guys.

The Stylish Multi-Tasker: No. 63
Wanting to conjure a mix of contemporary Lambertville, NJ, with yesteryear, Cindy Shoemaker and Doreen Phillips opened No. 63, and the rest is a hip rendition of history. The eclectic store, which moved from 63 Bridge Street to historic quarters at 10 North Union Street a year-and-a-half ago, is literally a one-stop shop for the multi-tasker who wants to browse antiques and artwork, try on vintage clothing and pick up stylish home accessories — Aunt Sadie brand candles fly off the shelves — in one fell swoop. Rounding out the mix is a collection of old-fashioned wooden toys that Phillips, a veteran magazine stylist, says challenge young minds in a different way than electronics.
